I'm surprised that your drawings changed so much after you applied the fixative spray. It's normal for them to change slightly, but not by that much. In particular, the colours in the left one seem washed away, and we can see the pencil marks! Perhaps you were spraying from too close a distance? Or is your spray particularly powerful? Is it the paper or the pastels? Do some experiments to find out which is to blame.
I always spray my drawings before scanning them because they get damaged by even the slightest friction when I put them in the scanner bed. They lose a little bit of coloured dust there even after I've sprayed them!
I’m guessing it’s a paper as it’s darker it ate away the light toned colours after I spray application as I tend to spray from far distance to avoid forming droplets. I’ll definitely get some colour swatches done for comparison this week, let’s see what’re the results. 🤗 thanks for the suggestion! 👍🏽
Thank you for appreciating, it’s really not a demo. I just showed my process of using this medium to get quick on setting mood for an illustration. At the moment, I am using Camel Brand from India. My favourite brand is Sennelier (I have couple of the colours from them which I’ll use in next live) There are some very good brands…Unison, Schmincke, Diane Townsend…which is on my wish list. 🤞🏽(If I ever decide to make illustrations only with pastels, I’ll surely invest in them)
Have you tried Mungyo Gallery Artists Hand Made? They are cheaper then Sennelier and Schminke but are almost as soft as them. The colours are wonderful.
Mungyo is a Korean brand. I also use their oil pastels and am very happy with the results.
